Gateway Academy is a program that FamilyLight ^sm holds in high regard.  We are currently placing abbreviated reviews on as many high quality schools and programs as possible, in response to the utilization pattern we see on this website.  We want to indicate our confidence in as many good programs as possible, planning to return with more detail later.

Gateway Academy has two homelike locations: one in Salt Lake City and the other in nearby Draper. Both are homelike, nurturing, with diverse populations and able to address a wide variety of psychiatric difficulties.   It is a safe place for boys with sexual identy issues but they don't want these populations to dominate. They are among the minority of programs that will provide kosher diet for those who need that, but again do not encourage that population to dominate.

When our consultant, Tom Croke, visited the program he was extremely impresssed with the positive attitudes of the boys he interviewed.  They consistently spoke positively of being there, of their good relationships with staff and their sense of accomplishment in the program.  

This program is staffed with particularly sophisticated clinicians and is directly managed by hands-on, on-site owners.

FamilyLight ^sm has not determined the degree of consistency with our revised Guidelines on Addiction and Substance Abuse.   We affirm our belief that Gateway has given careful and responsible thought to planning its approach to these issues.  We will want to examine that area closely when we complete a more complete review.

Gateway is a potential candidate for our Positive Intervention designation if Gateway management chooses to pursue that.
