Family
Light is making changes.
The first is
greater flexibility about the "home visit;" portion of our comprehensive
package. That is minor but on a limited basis, we like
the change after a trial period, and it is here to stay.
The other is
Virtual Consultant. This is being
developed, but is well underway. Follow that link to see how far
this has progressed. This is the best place to go to see
progress in developing these services. We retain what follows on
this site because of links directed to this page, but families using
this site in lieu of a private consultant should go to
Virtual Consultant. We have updated the
following to be accurate as of this date, December 8, 2013.
We do not anticipate frequent further updates here. Current information
will be at
Virtual Consultant.
FamilyLight
now offers a new service to families who intend a "do-it-yourself"
approach to planning for therapeutic services for a family member. Go
to
Virtual Consultant for full explanation. That
will tell you where to go to
ask a free
question. (No charge under many
circumstances). In addition, FamilyLight will provide
a full
records review suggesting the kinds of services
that are likely most appropriate to that family's need. A records
review will help families to better understand the kind of services that
will be needed for effective intervention with the person of concern.
Either of these services can be a simple one time interaction or it can
be an introduction to further communication, with fees for subsequent
communication commensurate with
the time involved.
Very soon (no,
Now in place!)
FamilyLight will add a subscription member service
making part of the website accessible only to
those who subscribe. Most older material and contributions by
others will remain accessible to the general public. A
discussion forum will be added in the subscriber only area. Final
design is incomplete but we think we will have space for blog
comments or discussion forum (for subscribers only) next to each article
in "Program Reviews" and "Topics of Interest."
Now
in place!
These
are initial steps as we plan to offer expanding services that do not
require in-person contact. These services will be
refined and further expanded as we become accustomed to providing the services we are
announcing here.
FamilyLight has historically accepted
as clients only those who contract for our full package of services,
while we have been willing to provide substantial support gratis to people who
did not contract with us. We
have historically required that we would meet in person with every
client as a requirement of accepting that client and accepting payment
on behalf of that client. Although changes in our
traditional services are currently contemplated, as of this writing that
service remains as it has been traditionally provided.
People considering our traditional package of services
will find relevant information at
"Individual and Personal Services" and the links that follow.

Disclaimer:
No program review, no
matter how positive, is a blanket endorsement. No criticism is a blanket
condemnation. When we express our level of confidence in a school
or program, that is our subjective opinion with which others might
reasonably disagree. When we assert something as fact, we have
done our best to be accurate, but we cannot guarantee that all of our
information is accurate and up to date. When we address compliance with
our guidelines, you need to remember that these are only OUR guidelines
-- not guidelines from an official source. We have also set the
bar very high, and do not expect any school or program to be in total
compliance. It is not appropriate to draw a conclusion of
impropriety (or even failure to live up to conventional wisdom) from our
lack of confidence in a school or program or from less than perfect
conformity to our guidelines. Some will say we expect too much.
